Birds are singing, the sun is shining, spring is here and so are the first dates of the “Almost There” tour.
Things kicked off Fri April 7th in Sioux Lookout with a wonderful afternoon workshop at Queen Elizabeth High School. Lots of bright faces, great listeners, and promising young musicians coming out of the north these days. I’ve heard teenagers can be a tough crowd, but these kids were great and after a few songs and a few jokes we were all chatting like friends, even made ourselves a new fan (thanks for the email Mateo!). Later that evening was a wonderful concert at the Sioux Legion with our old friend Natasha Ashlynn, hot off the release of her new EP: The Study, kicking things off. As she started to sing the room started to fill and we found ourselves playing to a packed house for the rest of the night. A big thank you to our gracious hosts Jon and Sarah for having us out and putting up with our shenanigans!
Sat April 8th was one of those beautiful northern spring mornings you spend the whole winter hoping for; 20 degree temperatures brought the windows down as we drove the beautiful highway 502 south to Fort Frances straddling the US / Canada border. Fort Frances is always one of our favourite towns to play; great people, great fun and we always leave with a new story. This time ’round we were performing at the stellar From the Grind Up coffee house, a great little room with food, coffee, killer pints and a great relaxed vibe. Another full house of old and new friends brought the Saturday night energy and we did our best to keep up with them. Thanks to Ben and all the great staff at From the Grind Up for having us out!
